NHRC Issues Notice To DGP On Nerella Incident

The National Human Rights Commission issued a notice to Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma over allegations of illegal detention and torture by the police of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and other backward communities in Nerella village in Sircilla Rajanna district of the state, based on complaints received and media reports.

According to TPCC official spokesperson Dasoju Sravan, the Commission observed that the allegations raised a serious concern over whether there was a violation of the human rights of the victims.

Accordingly, the DGP has been directed to conduct a fair and independent inquiry into the matter and submit a report within four weeks.
