Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar on Wednesday cautioned his counterparts from the southern states that Naxalites are trying to spread their presence all over the country.
Talking to media persons at the Jubilee Hall, where the
3rd Southern States Directors General of Police Conference is under way, Girish Kumar said that a proper action plan should be put in place before the Naxalites' presence takes root deep into areas hitherto untouched by them. He said that the meeting would discuss the measures necessary to contain the spread of Naxalism at the initial stage itself, "before it becomes endemic like in other states".
The DGP said that the Andhra Pradesh police has evidence of the Naxalites trying to set up cells in the neighbouring states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. He said that the police in these states should work on an action plan to ward of the lurking danger posed by the Maoists.
He said that the recent arrests of some key Maoist cadres in Karnataka is proof of the spread of the banned outfit.
The DGP also claimed that AP has been able to effectively contain Maoist activities to a certain degree.
