The state government is contemplating a change in the top echelons of the police hierarchy, by replacing Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar with intelligence chief K Aravinda Rao, besides shifting 28 Deputy Superintendents of Police.
According to highly-placed sources, the official announcement about the reshuffle would come in as soon as the next 2 to 3 days.
Girish Kumar had succeeded S S P Yadav as the DGP on October 7 last year, raising the hackles of some officers in the department who felt that they had been by-passed even though they were senior to him.
The former DGP had even approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) challenging the appointment of Girish Kumar as the DGP, citing 'irregularity' on the part of the government by ignoring the seniority of 5 officers and going ahead with the appointment.
Highly-placed sources say that the higher echelons in the police department are working overtime to see that Girish Kumar is removed from the top job before he retires.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah had replaced S S P Yadav in his first major reshuffle of the top officials after assuming charge in the state.
