Former Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, on Wednesday, accussed Congress leaders from the Telangana region of trying to gain political mileage over the statehood issue.
Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Bhaskar Rao said that the Congress has already clarified its stand on Telangana, and that all the leaders from the state had announced that they would abide by Sonia Gandhi's decision on the issue.
"However, some leaders have joined the opposition parties to criticise the Congress and its leadership over the issue," he said.
He advised Congress leaders from the Telangana region to observe restraint and wait for the Centre's decision on the statehood subject.
The former CM also dismissed reports of the Congress weakenening in the state. He said that the party was as strong as it was in 2004, and that it would win the next elections with a comfortable majority.
Bhaskar Rao also welcomed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's decision on Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). He said that the process of reforms would help farmers and ensure the flow of investments through FDI to the tune of nearly Rs. 2 lakh crore into the country.
He said that the economies of China and Japan had developed primarily due to foreign investments, and said that this is why opposition parties must not oppose FDI but must support the Prime Minister. (INN)
