Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday declared that he would move the no-confidence motion against the Congress. Naidu has already addressed a letter to the Assembly Secretary about the same, and the latter is reportedly yet to forward the letter to the Deputy Speaker and the Speaker.
"The ruling party has failed miserably in addressing people's problems, and we have thus decided to move the no-confidence motion against the government," said Naidu.
The TDP chief clarified that he was not moving the motion with the hopes of gaining power, and that he was doing so because "it is their duty as the opposition to move the no-confidence motion to being the ruling party to its knees when all else fails".
Naidu explained that his party had raised a hue and cry wherever necessary, to ensure that the seated power fulfills its responsibility towards the people of the state, in vain. He stated that the farmers of the state have failed to get any relief from the government even though almost all opposition parties had demanded that the government address their woes.
However, he lost no time in announcing that the TDP was prepared to face state-wide elections any time.
Yerram Naidu also spoke to the media on this occasion, and was quick to stress that the TDP was moving the no-confidence motion solely because it was the duty of the party as the major opposition in the state.
This announcement of the leader of opposition has jolted the state's politics, as even the politicos who challenged Naidu to move the motion never foresaw a flash response.
The YSR Congress Party and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have expressed their support for the TDP, even as they try to come to terms with the proceedings. Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has reportedly called for an emergency meeting at the party headquarters in the city at 5pm on Thursday to discuss this improvement.
Political observers state that Jagan did not expect such a speedy response from Naidu.
TRS leader Etala Rajender spoke for his party, stating that Naidu would be supported by the TRS because the Congress has failed to serve the interest of the 4-crore-strong public of Telangana.
The Assembly is yet to make a formal announcement regarding Naidu's bid to move the no-confidence motion against the Congress.
