Muslims Want KBR Park Renamed After Mukarram Jah
Hyderabad's Muslims appealed to KCR to compensate the loss of property suffered by Prince Mukarram Jah when the park was taken over by naming it after him.
The State Minorities Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan and its members have requested Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali to rename the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) Park, situated on Road No. 2, Banjara Hills, after Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur alias Mir Barkat Ali Khan.
The Commission explained to the Chief Minister that the land admeasuring about 300 acres of Cherian Park belonging to the Prince was taken over by the State government under the provisions of the Urban Land Ceiling Act and other revenue acts and subsequently notified as "National Park" and named after Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, former chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh.
The Commission members explained that hundreds of other properties of Mir Barkat Ali Khan were acquired in a discriminatory manner under the ULC Act as surplus but later released to the owners after the ULC Act had been repealed.
The Commission members also pointed out that properties of some MPs and powerful politicians were released from the ULC Act even though they were acquired earlier. These properties situated in the vicinity of the Park were first notified as surplus, but later de-notified and exempted from the Act.
The Minorities Commission has appealed to the Chief Minister to at least compensate the loss of the huge property which had been taken over for public use, by naming the park after Prince Mukarram Jah Bahadur.
The Commission also appealed to the Chief Minister to pass orders to this effect in this month of Ramzan.
