Telangana Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan today strongly condemned the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in both Houses of Parliament, and called it a deliberate and dangerous attempt to interfere in the religious and constitutional rights of Muslims.
He said that nobody in the Muslim community across India would accept the move, and vowed to challenge it in court and through public protests.
Khan described the Bill as undemocratic, unconstitutional, and aimed at weakening Waqf institutions while eroding the autonomy of Muslim-managed religious properties.
"This is not just a legislative change; it is an ideological assault - a direct attack on our faith, traditions and identity. Muslims across India are deeply disturbed by this brazen interference in religious affairs, and we will resist it through all democratic and legal means," he said.
He argued that the Bill empowered the government to centralise control over Waqf properties, sidelining traditional community structures and decision-making processes. Such a move could lead to increased bureaucratic interference, misuse of Waqf assets, and the alienation of properties intended for the welfare of the poor and the upkeep of mosques, dargahs and educational institutions, he said.
The MLC also accused the BJP government of systematically targeting minority institutions, and said the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was part of a broader pattern of legislative overreach aimed at diluting constitutional protections under Articles 25 to 30, which safeguarded the rights of minorities to manage their religious and cultural affairs.
