Telangana Congress president Revanth Reddy today said that the upcoming by-election for the Munugodu Assembly constituency seat was very important for the party.
Addressing a meeting of the affiliated organisations of the party under the chairmanship of TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Reddy said that the role played by the affiliated organisations would be very crucial in the by-elections, and urged the chairpersons of the organisations to work hard for victory, and not only for the by-election but also for next year's Assembly elections.
He also said that all the party workers should work hard at the ground level to ensure that the party retained the Munugodu seat, and to teach a lesson to all those Congress leaders who had left the party.
TPCC publicity cell chairman Madhu Yashki Goud alleged that the TRS and the BJP had necessitated the by-election as part of a conspiracy to prevent mid-term elections for the Assembly. He also alleged that the two parties were also trying to create an image in the State that the contest would be between the TRS and the BJP in the by-election. He asserted that the Congress was however ready to counter all such conspiracies of those parties, and that the Congress was considering the Munugodu by-election as a semi-final before the next Assembly elections.
He said that the national president of the party Sonia Gandhi was also keenly observing the political developments in Telangana.
He added that the party would field a consensus candidate in Munugodu keeping in view its past experiences, and urged the party workers and leaders to work hard for the by-election to ensure the victory of the party.
Meanwhile, the party has decided to launch a padayatra in Munugodu on August 13. The padayatra will cover all the 175 villages in the constituency. Goud also said that the party would hold mandal-level meetings of its leaders of Munugodu from August 16.
