Senior Congress leader and Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who was slapped with a criminal case by the Banjara Hills police for wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and assault of two policemen, was denied anticipatory bail by the Nampally criminal court on Thursday.
For the uninitiated, the Banjara Hills police had registered an FIR against the MP for allegedly confining, threatening and assaulting a police sub-inspector and a head constable at his office in Hyderabad last week.
Based on a complaint filed by the SI and a constable, the Banjara Hills police booked a case against Reddy under sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC last week.
The police have been searching for Reddy for the past one week as he had been evading them since the case was filed.
During the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, Sub-Inspector Krishna and head constable Srinivas visited the office of Vishweshwar Reddy at Banjara Hills regarding a case related to one Sandeep Reddy, who was his associate. Sandeep Reddy was detained by the police after he was caught carrying Rs 10 lakh, cash that was suspected as meant to influence voters.
When the Sub-Inspector and the head constable went to the office of Vishweshwar Reddy to inquire about the cash, they were allegedly confined to a room on the second floor of the building and threatened by Vishweshwar Reddy and his office staff. Following that the cases were filed by the police against Reddy.
After the incident, the Chevella MP went underground and moved an anticipatory bail petition two days back. But the Nampally criminal court rejected his petition.
