It is sad but true - whenever an official is deputed to the post of Chief Executive Officer or Secretary of the Muslim Wakf Board, he has invariably seen himself as above the rules and regulations.
This attitude by the CEO sometimes becomes the reason for his downfall. This was proved yet again with the registering of an FIR against incumbent CEO of the Wakf Board B S Farooq Ahmed for mentally harassing his junior officer.
Farooq is currently behind bars on charges of accepting a bribe for doing an official favour.
Farooq's luck ran out when he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe, and to add to his woes, the FIR against him and 6 others for intimidating his junior officers was registered on the direction of the VI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate under sections 448, 506 and 384 IPC R/w 156 (3) Cr PC.
The FIR was registered when complainant P Khaja Shafi, an accounts officer at the Wakf Board, approached the Court claiming that Farooq and his juniors had continuously harassed him mentally.
Shafi's complaint alleged that the mental harassment was such that he was forced to apply for voluntary retirement on 20 January 2010. He further alleged that Farooq refused his voluntary request, allegedly to further harass him. Farooq then 'transferred' Shafi to a nonexistent post of 'Chief Inspector Auditor'.
Shafi alleges that when he approached the High Court to overturn the transfer order, Farooq, along with 2 other men, barged into his home late at night on 25 April 2010 and threatened him. They forced him to sign on the Tappal Register and told him to accept the proceedings of his retirement. Shafi claims that he has witnesses to prove the incident.
