Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to declare an epidemic in the State as hundreds of people were allegedly dying of Dengue.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Vikramarka alleged that the overall charges spent by all people together on Dengue treatment had reached Rs. 10 crores in the Khammam district alone. People were literally mortgaging their assets to meet the health care expenses, he claimed.
Dengue was spreading like wildfire due to the government's apathy, he lamented, and demanded that the government extend Rs. 10 lakhs ex-gratia each to the families of the victims.
Demanding that the State government declare an epidemic in the State, Vikramarka said that it was unfortunate that the State government would not release funds for sanitation programs.
He questioned the government on the whereabouts of the funds allotted for the State under the Swachch Bharath scheme. He also asked the government to release funds to combat and control the spread of the disease, immediately.
