Former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao, on Monday, resigned as a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in protest against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
According to sources, Mopidevi, who is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Jail, handed over his resignation letter, in the Speaker's format, to the jail authorities, asking them to forward it to Speaker Nadendla Manohar. Mopidevi represents Repalle Assembly segment of Guntur district.
Mopidevi was arrested by the CBI on May 24 last year, for his alleged role in the VANPIC segment of the disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy. He has been lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail since his arrest. (INN)
