TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of working as a salesman for and awarding major contracts works to his loyalist corporate friends at the cost of the nation.
Addressing a meeting organised by the TRS at Jalavihar on Necklace Road on Saturday in support of the Presidential candidature of Yashwant Sinha, the Chief Minister said the country's image was dented because of Modi forcing the Sri Lankan government to award a project to his loyalist businessman, and that Modi's act had evoked huge criticism in Sri Lanka and embarrassed India in front of other nations.
Terming Modi as the worst Prime Minister the country had ever produced, the TRS president said that the country had gotten ruined in all areas, and that nothing was done for its development in the eight years that Modi had been in power.
"Modi is coming to Hyderabad for two days and will definitely speak against me. I demand that the Prime Minister disclose to the nation what he has done during his eight years as PM, and in which sectors the country has made progress," KCR asked.
"Modi made tall promises after assuming office the first time. But not a single promise has been fulfilled. He promised to double the farmers' incomes. In reality, investment on farming doubled. Diesel, petrol and power prices have increased. Modi brought into force three farm laws, and more than 700 farmers sacrificed their lives to get them repealed. The union government branded the agitating farmers as terrorists and part of the Khalistani gang. Ministers and BJP leaders attacked farmers," KCR claimed.
The CM said that during Modi's rule, India's ranks in many sectors had fallen. India's rank in the Human Development Index fell to 131 from 80, and in human rights to 119 from 85. The unemployment rate had also increased to 8.1% from 5.6% in the previous governments. India also registered poor ranks in the Happiness Index and the Environment Index. It all showed the poor performance of the Modi government for the last eight years, KCR said.
"Despite all this, Modi considers himself a god. His dictatorship is increasing with each passing day. People know what is happening in the country today. Farmers are agitated, unemployed youths are disturbed and inflation is increasing. But if anyone speaks about this, Modi misuses constitutional bodies against them. He is killing democracy and the federal system every day, oppressing voices and even bringing down governments that don't listen to him," the Telangana CM added.
KCR also took a dig at Modi for interfering in other countries' elections. Modi supported Trump in the US elections when India's foreign policy was to maintain good relations with foreign nations. The PM should tender an apology for denting India's reputation at the international level through acts like this and those in Sri Lanka, KCR demanded.
The TRS president appealed to all his MPs and MLAs to support Yashwant Sinha in the Presidential elections, and also called upon all MPs and legislators in the country to support Sinha and vote according to their consciences.
