An unknown miscreant today attacked Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Perni Nani with a sickle while pretending to touch the minister's feet.
However, Nani narrowly escaped the attack unhurt after his gunman overpowered the attacker.
The supporters of the minister then caught hold of the attacker and handed him over to the local police.
The incident took place at the minister's residence in Machilipatnam.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Nani said that he was not physically hurt as the attacker's sickle had only hit his belt.
The CI handling the case, Venkataramana, revealed that the attacker had been identified as Badugu Nageswara Rao, a mason from Chemmanagiri Peta village, and said that he was being interrogated to gain more clarity about his motives.
He also said that they had found that Rao was in an inebriated condition.
