Mild Tremors Rock Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

Weather experts say that this is the strongest earthquake in Telangana in the last 20 years.

Mild tremors were felt at several places in the two Telugu States today.

The tremors were felt for a few seconds at 7.27 am this morning.

This created panic among the people, several of whom ran out of their homes.

The intensity of the quake was recorded 5.3 on the Richter scale. Weather experts say that this is the strongest earthquake in Telangana in the last 20 years. However, not much damage was reported except for stray incidents like the wall of a house collapsing at Shankarajupalle in the Eturu Nagaram mandal.

The epicentre of the earthquake was at Medaram in Telangana's Mulugu district. The scientists at CSIR-NCRI said that the tremors were felt within a radius of 225 km from the epicentre.

The places where the tremors were felt included Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Jaggayyapeta, Nandigama, Eluru, Hyderabad, Khammam, Ranga Reddy, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jangaon, Kothagudem, Manugur, Bhadrachalam, Charla, Chintakani, Nagulavancha, Yellandu, Godavari, Hanumakonda and Bhupalpally.

The impact was however highest in Mulugu, Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem districts.
