Minister for Panchayat Raj Seethakka today called on Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan to submit a formal request urging the approval of the bill that will elevate the Mulugu gram panchayat to the status of a municipality.
The bill was passed by the Assembly in 2022, but has remained pending due to technical issues.
The bill, which aims to transform Mulugu into a municipality, has faced delays partly due to mistakes made by the previous government. Although the earlier administration had incorporated the Mulugu municipality issue into the Telangana Municipal Amendment Bill, the same bill also proposed amendments to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Act. This overlap created confusion and complications.
Despite the disorder among legislators, the bill was passed in 2022. However, due to legal and technical complexities, former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan forwarded the bill for Presidential approval, which has kept the bill in limbo.
During her meeting, Seethakka provided the necessary details of the bill to Governor Varma and appealed to him to approve it.
