Hyderabad | 29th October 2012
Mild tremors were felt in several parts of the state on Monday.
Panic-stricken residents rushed out of their homes in Prakasam, Guntur, Nalgonda, Krishna, Khammam and Ranga Reddy districts. The tremors, which lasted for three to four seconds, were of an intensity below 2.8 on the Richter scale and therefore unidentifiable by the seismic observatory at the National Geophysical Research Institute. Scientists described these tremors as seismic vibrations, and claimed that they were not a rare occurrance in those parts.
Tremors were also felt in the Krishna River basin area. At some places walls developed minor cracks and vessels fell down in the kitchens due to the impact of tremors.
In January this year, similar tremors were reported in Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts. (INN)
