Telangana Municipal Administration minister K T Rama Rao today refuted the reports in some newspapers that he had said that the GHMC elections would be held after November 11.
He claimed that he had never said anything like that, and that what he had actually said had been distorted by some newspapers.
"Actually what I had said was that the elections for the GHMC could be held any time after the second week of November. There is no truth in the reports in some newspapers that the elections will be held after November 11. It is for the Election Commission to decide on the dates of the elections. What I said was something and what the newspapers wrote was something different," KTR said.
"What I had said was that the elections may be preponed. The media should check my words before writing or publishing reports," he added.
The minister had said in yesterday's meeting that the GHMC elections were likely to be advanced by two months.
He also appealed to the TRS leadership to get ready for the elections and conduct widespread campaigning about the party's welfare and development programs.
