After inviting the wrath of various parties on the proposal to rename Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Chief Minister K Rosaiah might have invited a fresh controversy with renaming of Medak district after former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Rosaiah announced this decision on Thursday during the 125th anniversary celebrations of Congress held at Sangareddy town of Medak district.
The Chief Minister said that the government had already started the exercise to rename the district after former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Indira Gandhi was elected from Medak Parliamentary constituency in 1980 after defeating the then Janata Party candidate S Jaipal Reddy by a whopping margin of over 2 lakh votes. She had not even bothered to visit the district for campaigning.
Medak will be the 3rd district to be renamed in recent years after political leaders.
Earlier, Nellore district in coastal Andhra was named after Potti Sriramulu in 2008, and Kadapa district in Rayalaseema region was renamed YSR district in July this year.
