AP Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena today said that massive voting was recorded in Andhra Pradesh for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on May 13, and that polling took place till 2 am in some polling stations.
Speaking with the media on the polling pattern in the State, he said that the voting percentage would be higher this time compared to that in the last election.
He said in the 2019 elections 79.2% voting was recorded, and that it had gone up to 79.8% with the addition of 0.6% postal ballot votes. An estimated 78.25% voting had been recorded by midnight in the current election, and if 1.2% in postal ballot votes were to be added to that, the total polling percentage would be 79.4%, he said.
Meena said that as per the EC's current estimate, the total voting percentage was likely to be 81 this year, and that full details would be available soon.
He also said that new EVMs had been set up in the centres where polling continued even after 12 midnight, and that mock polling had been conducted for the new EVMs in some 20 centres.
