The police have set the stage for the arrest of Macherla MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, who created anarchy by destroying EVMs and VVPATs at a polling booth at Palvai Gate, on polling day, May 13.
The Election Commission is treating the breaking of the EVMs by Pinelli as a serious issue, and ordered his immediate arrest.
On the polling day, Pinnelli along with his supporters barged into the booth and smashed the EVM to the ground and destroyed it, creating a ruckus in the area.
Expressing serious displeasure over the MLA's behaviour, the EC asked why he had not been arrested so far.
AP CEO Mukesh Kumar Meena has been asked to submit a report by 5 pm on the incident.
The EC acted after TDP leader Lokesh's tweet on the incident.
Pinnelli has been booked under 10 sections of the IPC, RP Act and PDPP Act. A case has been registered under sections 143, 147, 448, 427, 353, 452 and 120B of the IPC, and another case has been registered under the PDPP Act and Sections 131 and 135 of the RP Act.
The police suspect that Pinelli is trying to flee abroad, and have alerted all the airports. A lookout notice has been issued.
