SIT To Investigate Violence Before And After Elections In AP

The Andhra Pradesh government will set up a Special Investigation Team to investigate the pre- and post-election violence in the State.
Hyderabad | 17th May 2024
The AP government will set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the pre- and post-election violence in the State.

The SIT will be constituted as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India.

The SIT will submit a report on every post-election violence incident. It will conduct inquiries into the Palnadu, Macharla, Narasaraopet, Tirupati, Chandragiri and Tadipatri incidents among others. Senior police officials feel that DSP Chaitanya acted beyond his scope in the Tadipatri incident.

Officials are also thinking about bringing the recent incident in Visakhapatnam under the purview of the SIT.

The police will register FIRs in every incident.

The EC has directed the state government to submit the report within two days. The Commission is targeting several officers whose failure it sees as responsible for various incidents.
