Several activists of the Congress and TRS parties received injuries when they indulged in pelting stones at each other. Nine vehicles were also destroyed in the incident, including Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy's car.
The police arrested Reddy later and shifted him to Miryalaguda Police Station to ease the tense situation.
As scheduled, Marketing Minister T Harish Rao was to lay foundation stone for Batthai Market Yard in Nalgonda on Tuesday. On the occasion, leaders of both the parties organised rallies up to Batthai Market Yard to welcome Rao on a grand note.
But the TRS activists obstructed the Congressmen's rally led by local MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, leading to jostling between the TRS and Congress activists. The TRS activists hurled stones at the Congress activists and destroyed the vehicles at the spot. Several Congress and TRS activists, including Reddy, received injuries in the melee. Reddy then staged a sit-in on the road in protest the TRS activists' attitude, and fell unconscious for some time.
Later, the police arrested Reddy and shifted him to Miryalaguda Police Station. Harish Rao came to Nalgonda later along with Power Minister G Jagdeesh Reddy, MLAs and MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy, and laid the foundation stone for Batthai Market Yard.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that he had never participated in official programs for the last three years. "But it was I that made the government sanction Batthai Market Yard in Nalgonda, and so I came in a rally to participate in the program. But the TRS activists hurled stones at Congress activists leading to injuries."
Reddy said that he would see how the minister toured the district in future. He also alleged that the police encouraged the TRS activists to hurl stones at Congress activists.
It may be recalled that the grudge between the TRS and the Congress parties has been increasing day by day with Congress MLA Komatiredy Venkat Reddy and TRS MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy at the forefront. Both Venkat Reddy and Sukhender Reddy have been making serious political allegations against each other time and again.
