The man who confined his daughter to a room in his house for over a year and inflicted third degree torture upon her, was nabbed after a week-long hunt by the Cyberabad police.
Readers will recall that the ill-fated girl Pratyusha,
who underwent torture at the hands her father and step-mother, was rescued by child rights activists and the L B Nagar police last week. The victim is being treated in a private hospital. While her step-mother Shyamala was arrested at the time that the victim was rescued, the police tracked down her absconding father Ramesh to a house in Bowenpally in Secunderabad.
Ramesh, an officer in BSNL, and his second wife Chamundeswari alias Shyamala, tortured their teenage daughter Pratyusha to no end. She was continuously thrashed and denied food by step-mother Chamundeswari, and Ramesh did not object. She was also confined to a small room and forced to do menial jobs at home.
The Hyderabad High Court, which took up the terrible case suo motu, enquired about the condition of the hapless girl. L B Nagar police inspector Srinivas Reddy apprised the judge of the entire episode and the latest developments. He told the court that the condition of Pratyusha was stable and that she was undergoing treatment in Aware Global Hospital free of charge.
The judge complimented the hospital for treating the victim free of charge on humanitarian grounds, and asked the Attorney General to speak to the girl and find out what she has to say, and adjourned the case to Friday.
