The Rachakonda police have arrested six inter-state offenders, who robbed Mahadev Jewellers in Snehapuri Colony under the Chaitanyapuri police station limits with firearms on December 1, and recovered stolen jewellery, and the firearms and vehicles used in the commission of the dacoity.
A massive hunt is still going on for the apprehension of four more absconding dacoits.
On December 1 at 2:15 pm, Raj Kumar Surana, a businessman running Ganpathi Jewellers at Pot Market, Monda Market, Secunderabad, along with his assistant Sukha Ram alias Sukhdev Devasi, started on his motorcycle from his home carrying about three kg of readymade gold ornaments in a bag, to sell in different jewelry shops in the city. They finally reached Mahadev Jewellers at Snehapuri Colony at around 8 pm and waited as shop owner Kalyan Chowdhary was busy with customers.
After the customers left, Surana and Sukha Ram started displaying the jewelry items to Chowdhary, when two unidentified persons entered the shop and a third person downed its shutter from outside. One of the assailants threatened the people in the store with a pistol and asked them to hand over the jewelry bag. When they resisted, the robber fired resulting in bullet wounds to Chowdhary and Ram. The assailants then forcibly snatched the jewelry bag, opened the shutter and escaped on bikes.
Fifteen police teams were deployed to solve the case. The breakthrough came through one of the crime vehicles partially captured by CCTV, and after relentless efforts, the cops today arrested six of the offenders.
The kingpin of the gang was found to be one Mahender Chowdhary who runs a jewellery shop at Gajwel and is a native of Paali district in Rajasthan. He hired professional offenders from Haryana and Delhi to commit the crime.
Rachakonda CP Mahesh Bhagwat advised jewellery shop owners to install sensors, alarms and CCTV cameras inside and outside of shops and avoid routineness in movement of jewellery.
