Pallam Raju's Convoy Kills 5

An escort vehicle of Minister of State for Defense M M Pallam Raju collided with an overcrowded autorickshaw (of 9) in AP's East Godavari district, killing 5 women.

The security escort vehicle of the Minister of State for Defense M M Pallam Raju collided with an overcrowded autorickshaw (of 9) on the Perumallapuram Beach Road in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district on Thursday morning.

According to eye witnesses, at around 10:30am, the jeep rammed into the auto at a high speed as the minister was on his way to visiting his Kakinada constituency. The auto driver jumped out of the vehicle just before the collision occured, saving himself from injuries.

The jeep driver, K Satyanarayana, was booked under rash driving, while the auto driver was booked under negligent driving.

5 women were killed instantly & 2 were critically injured because of the incident, all of them fisherwomen. An amount of Rs. 10 lakhs was granted to the family of the dead victims and Rs. 5 lakhs to those injured.
