Government Whip in the Rajya Sabha M A Khan on Wednesday demanded that the Congress allocate adequate number of tickets to candidates belonging to the Muslim and other minority communities.
Speaking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office, Khan said that the Congress should give at least one ticket to Muslims in each of the 10 districts of Telangana. He expressed confidence that the Congress would do justice to the minorities and ensure their proper representation in legislative bodies.
Welcoming the appointment of Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Dr. N Raghuveera Reddy as the chiefs of the Congress' Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committees respectively, Khan said that by elevating Backward Classes leaders to top posts, the party has proved that it believes in practical and not empty promises.
He praised the Congress for its welfare schemes, especially for the minorities. He said the Congress had made Dr. Manmohan Singh, belonging to the minority Sikh community, the country's Prime Minister to prove that it is sincere towards the development of minorities. (INN)
