Lok Adalat In Telangana Tops India In Disposal Of Cases

The 3rd National Lok Adalat held on September 14, 2024, in Telangana emerged the first in the country in disposal of cases.
A total of 6,11,996 pending criminal and civil cases were taken up, of which 6,05,805 cases (or 98.99%) were settled. 6,02,601 criminal cases and 3,204 civil cases that were pending were settled.
In addition, 6,41,022 pre-litigation cases were also taken up (pre-litigation cases are cases which have not yet reached the courts). Of them, 6,33,239 cases (98.79%) were disposed of. Thus, a total of 12,39,044 cases (98.88%) were disposed of in all.
Pending cases across all categories including motor accident compensation cases, civil suits, cheque bounce cases and matrimonial disputes were taken up for settlement. Awards worth Rs 250,19,44,447 were granted in the cases taken up.
A total of 230 Lok Adalat benches were constituted across the State of Telangana. Prior to that, the district courts set up 130 pre-Lok Adalat conciliation sessions, which led to the disposal of the huge number of cases.
