The ongoing state-wide lockdown entered its 12th day today, but its efficacy is not clear due to the crowding in the relaxation hours.
Almost all areas of the capital brimmed with an even higher number of people during the morning hours (6 am to 10 am) today when the restrictions were eased, as it was Sunday. People thronged vegetable markets, and chicken, fish and mutton shops, to make their purchases.
The people coming out of their houses in large numbers simultaneously and not following social distance norms to keep the novel coronavirus at bay is seriously enhancing the threat of the rapid spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, the state police have closed all its borders to enforce the lockdown rules in a more strict manner. As a result, a lot of confusion prevailed on the AP-Telangana borders.
Scores of vehicles came to the state border from AP since there are relaxations in the lockdown rules till 10 am, but the police did not allow them in, resulting in heavy traffic jams. Vehicles are currently being allowed into the state only on production of e-passes. The police have also made it clear that all emergency vehicles should have proper ID cards.
