BRS working president K T Rama Rao today called for Statewide protests in support of farmers struggling due to the "failed" crop procurement process, and instructed party members to gather at procurement centres and government offices.
At a visit to a Bengal gram procurement centre in Sadasivapet, Sangareddy district, KTR criticised the Congress government for its "inability to set up sufficient procurement centres", leaving farmers waiting indefinitely for the purchase of their crops.
Interacting with farmers who claimed that the government was not purchasing their produce and thereby causing them significant distress, KTR said that the procurement system had completely failed, with the government opting for superficial measures rather than ensuring timely crop purchases.
He urged party leaders and workers to visit procurement centres in their local areas over the coming week, support farmers until their stocks were procured, and organise protests if procurement did not take place.
He also called for demonstrations outside Tahsildar and Collector offices, and urged the submission of memoranda to officials.
KTR also claimed that farmers growing paddy, jowar and Bengal gram were not receiving the promised prices, and insisted that all crops must be procured at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He added that procurement should also take place without any conditions.
"The BRS will persist until every grain is procured," he said.
