The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has accused Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal of misleading the farmers of the Krishna delta by holding Telangana leaders responsible for the non-release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.
Talking to reporters at the Assembly media point, TRS polit-bureau member B Vinod condemned Lagadapati's statement, in which he had accused the TRS and Telangana leaders of halting the release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar to the Krishna delta.
He said that during the rule of the Telugu Desam Party, GO Ms No. 69, dated 15-06-1996, was released, stating that water could not be released from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam if the water level was below 834 feet. He also quoted GO Ms No 107, dated on 28-09-2004, which, he said, raised the prescribed water level to 854 feet.
He said that Telangana leaders had approached the court based on these two GOs.
Vinod said that the TRS leaders had not raised any new demand, and that they had only insisted on the implementation of the earlier GOs. He added that by leveling baseless allegations against the TRS leaders, Lagadapati Rajagopal was trying to create enmity between Telangana leaders and farmers from the Krishna delta.
The TRS leader demanded that the Vijayawada MP present the true picture of the Krishna delta to the farmers there by revealing the details of the GOs issued by the TDP and the Congress governments. (INN)
