Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao reiterated that the TRS government would not allow the installation of electric meters for agriculture pumpsets, and would go any extent to oppose the Centre's decision.
Addressing an awareness meeting for farmers at Manneguda in Turkayamjal municipality on the outskirts of Hyderabad, KTR alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was pressurising the TRS government to install meters for agriculture pumpsets for the granting of loans and making other budgetary allocations. However, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was fiercely opposing the Centre's move, he claimed.
KTR also lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing even more "lopsided policies" against farmers, including planning to privatise the procurement of food grains in the country, a move that he claimed was going to become a threat for the survival of farmers.
Extolling the virtues of his own government's dealing with farmers, KTR claimed that the cultivation area in Telangana had reached about 1.35 crore acres, and that paddy production in the State in 2022 was now about 3.5 crore tons, up from 68 lakh tons in 2014.
He also said that Telangana was the only State in India supplying interrupted power supply to all segments.
"Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is trying to make all sections of the people prosperous by implementing various welfare schemes while PM Modi is trying to make a few people rich by awarding contracts," KTR alleged.
Ministers Niranjan Reddy and Sabitha Indra Reddy, and other leaders were present.
