Union Minister for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya today spoke to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj about the plight of Macha Manjula, a Hyderabad resident, in Doha.
Manjula, a resident of Kushaiguda, has been detained illegally at Doha, Qatar, by the kafil with whom she was working as a maid. Dattatreya said that Macha Ravi, the husband of Manjula, had told him that an agent named Sattar escorted Manjula from Hyderabad to Doha promising her employment with a handsome salary. After working as a domestic maid for three months, the kafil detained her. Her mobile phone was also seized by the kafil.
After relentless efforts to talk to Manjula and have her released from the kafil's captivity, the grief-stricken family members and her children approached Dattatreya, and he approached the External Affairs Ministry.
Hearing of her plight, Swaraj acted swiftly and entrusted the job of rescuing Manjula to Mrudul Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs. He initiated action for Manjula's early and safe deportation by alerting the Indian embassy officials in Doha, Qatar, and requesting them for immediate action.
