The "Y" junction near Kukatpally, previously known as Godrej Junction, has been renamed as "Dr. B R Ambedkar Y-Junction".
The council of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, in its resolution No. 252 of the general body, dated 24 May 2012, approved the proposal for renaming the junction after Ambedkar, as per the request of the president and other office-bearers of the Dalithula Aikya Vedika.
Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy had forwarded Dalithula Aikya Vedika's representation to the GHMC on 26 July 2011. The GHMC had then put up a preamble before the standing committee, after which the standing committee has approved the change of name. (INN)
