Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao will lay the foundation stone for the construction of an AC bus terminal near the Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park on the Vijayawada highway on Saturday, December 9.
The modern terminal is being constructed to divert some commuters from the city's L B Nagar crossroads bus terminals to ease the problem of severe traffic congestion in the area - the L B Nagar terminals see a footfall of about 25,000 people every day.
Reports say that the construction of the terminal will be completed by the HMDA, which has been instructed to complete the works at the earliest by the state government, in about six months from now.
The bus terminal is to be equipped with various amenities, including a food court, a water ATM, public restrooms, and three bus bays with waiting rooms, inquiry desks and secured parking spaces.
The construction is being undertaken at a cost of around Rs 10 crore.
The Telangana government has been actively working towards solving the problem of traffic congestion on the streets of the capital. It has undertaken a project to construct link roads in the city to divert vehicles from the traffic-choked areas to ease the problem of vehicular congestion. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar had recently
convened a meeting on the matter, and had advised the concerned officials to initiate works to construct several bridges across the Musi to divert any excess traffic from the arterial roads in the city.
