The Telangana unit of the BJP today demanded that the state government withdraw any proposals to increase the fares of the buses run by the state-owned TSRTC.
Senior leader of the party and former MLA N V S S Prabhakar, while speaking to media persons, said that the corporation was incurring losses due to the policies of the TRS-led state government, and that increasing the bus fares to overcome its losses was the wrong solution. Given that the TSRTC had cited rising fuel costs as the reason for the losses, he demanded that the state government decrease VAT on petrol and diesel if it really wanted to improve the finances of the TSRTC.
Prabhakar alleged that the real reason behind the proposal to hike fares was not to help the TSRTC turn in profits but that the state government was planning to hand over the assets of the corporation to the ruling TRS leaders.
Commenting on the suicides of the farmers of the state, he said CM K Chandrashekar Rao needed to take responsibility for them. He alleged that the state government had joined hands with the rice millers of the state to cause losses to the farmers, and that KCR was avenging the defeat of his party in the recent Huzurabad by-election.
