BRS working president K T Rama Rao today issued a legal notice to Union minister and BJP MP Bandi Sanjay, alleging defamatory remarks by the latter.
KTR threatened to file a defamation suit if Sanjay did not provide an unconditional apology within a week for spreading what the former called false propaganda.
In the notice, KTR contended that Sanjay had made baseless allegations during a media interaction on October 19, accusing him (KTR) of drug use and involvement in phone-tapping during the BRS government's tenure. KTR firmly denied any allegations of drug use or phone-tapping, and called them deliberate fabrications.
KTR said that his father, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was also maligned by Sanjay in relation to the phone-tapping case.
The notice argued that Sanjay's comments were derogatory and aimed at tarnishing KTR's reputation, and expressed concern that the widely disseminated statements could lead to public misunderstandings about him. He challenged Sanjay to substantiate his claims of drug use, phone-tapping and collusion with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to evade legal issues.
"As a five-time MLA and a State minister for nine years, I have consistently worked for the interests of Telangana. Bandi Sanjay has orchestrated this smear campaign out of desperation, as he lacks the political strength to confront me directly. His allegations are unfounded and part of a conspiracy to damage my reputation among the public," he said.
