In a significant step towards fulfilling its promise of providing free housing to the poor of the state, the Telangana government today launched 324 2BHK units in Jai Bharathi Nagar, Vanasthalipuram.
MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao presented the keys to the beneficiaries on the occasion and congratulated them on their new homes.
Speaking at the launch, Rao said, "These houses, built at the cost of Rs 8.65 lakh each, are equipped with all the modern facilities needed for a comfortable life. They are equipped with lifts, fire safety measures, stable power supply, drinking water access and underground drainage. The houses are proof of the TRS government's commitment to the welfare of the people of the state."
The minister also lauded his government for implementing the scheme, claiming that it was the only state in the country that had undertaken such a massive housing initiative.
He then appealed to the residents to maintain the cleanliness of the premises, especially through the ongoing pandemic.
KTR also planted saplings on the premises.
Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Chairperson of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation A Sudheer Reddy, Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, MLC Yegge Mallesham and GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar were among the officials present at the inauguration of the houses.
The housing scheme, a brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is the flagship welfare scheme of the TRS government. Delays in its completion have attracted widespread criticism from the Opposition.
