The new political party Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) under the leadership of M Kodandaram was formally announced on Sunday at a public meeting held at the Saroor Nagar stadium.
The leaders unanimously elected Kodandaram as the president of the party in the meeting attended by thousands of people. Several leaders sat on the dais.
After the announcement, Kodandaram hoisted the party flag.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that the TJS was floated to protect democracy and social values in Telangana. They lamented that the present rulers were involved in the sand mafia, the land mafia and other nefarious activities, and that Telangana had fallen into the hands of anti-Telangana leaders. They warned Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that they would not keep quiet and would fight for the sake of a democratic Telangana under the leadership of Kodandaram, and to end the "dora" rule in the state.
TJS leaders Gade Innaiah, Telangana Development Forum convener D P Reddy, Padma Chalma Reddy, Lakshmi and several others addressed the meeting.
Speaking to the media, Kodandaram alleged that the KCR government was working against the aspirations of the Telangana movement, and that the people were looking at alternative politics. The people were not happy with the Congress' fight against the TRS government, and that was the reason for the formation of the TJS, he said. He said the TJS would go to people with the ideals of Kanshiram, Jayashanker and Kejriwal for votes.
