Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) founder-president M Kodandaram today demanded that the State government seize the properties of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) owner Krishna Reddy's properties to recover the recent losses incurred by the State government due to the inundation of two pump houses of the Kaleswaram lift irrigation project.
Stating that Reddy was the contractor of the project, he asked the State government why the tax-payer should pay the losses incurred on it.
He made these remarks while addressing a gathering at a round table conference held at the Press Club in Somajiguda in the city.
Congress leader Madhu Yashki Goud also took part in the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Kodandaram said that the people of the State were quite worried after learning about the defects in the Kaleshwaram project, and that they were all waiting for a permanent solution.
He added that the CM had come up with the cloudburst theory with the sole objective of protecting Krishna Reddy, and said that there was a need to give a "Chalo Kaleshwaram" call to put pressure on the government to punish those behind the scam, and that a committee on behalf of the people of the State should be constituted to inquire into the reasons that resulted in the submergence of the two pump houses, irrespective of the inquiry held by the State government.
He also said that the people living in the submerged villages were saying that they would not live in such areas any more after the recent floods.
Referring to the Rs. 10,000 financial aid to the victims of the floods, he asked the State government whether that amount would be adequate for the victims.
Madhu Yashki Goud said that the flooding of the Kaleswaram project was a man-made disaster, and that the corruption of the contractor MEIL had come to the fore after the recent floods. He demanded that the State government arrest MEIL owner Reddy immediately.
