The police arrested the Telangana Jana Samithi chief at the Bikkanuru toll gate in Nizamabad district when he tried to call on farmers who were being arrested.
The police took Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) chief M Kodandaram into custody at the Bikkanuru toll gate in Nizamabad district on Monday when he tried to call on farmers who were being arrested by the police.
The police said that Section 144 of the CrPC was in force in the district and there was no permission to the leader to call on farmers.
For the uninitiated, with the farmers' agitation demanding the release of SRPS waters for irrigation purpose turning serious, the police imposed Section 144 as the farmers were resorting to agitations in their villages in the Armoor sub-division limits. The police have been deployed across the main roads across the district.
Earlier in the morning, Kodandaram paid tributes to Telangana ideologue late Jayashankar at Gun Park, Hyderabad, on the occasion of the latter's birth anniversary. Speaking on the occasion, Kodandaram reminded people of Jayashankar's words that the people needed to wage movements continuously for justice, and said that everyone needed to wage movements even tody in Telangana to realize the aim of Jayashankar that the fruits of the Telangana movement reach all. He also recalled that Jayashankar participated in the Telangana movement with sincerity and commitment.
Earlier, Kodandaram paid tributes to a portrait of Jayashankar at the TJS office, too.
