In order to maintain law & order and to prevent incidents of breach of peace and accidents likely to occur due to kite-flying during the celebration of Sankranthi in Hyderabad, Hyderabad's Commissioner of Police Mahendar Reddy ordered that kite-flying on all thoroughfares and in and around places of worship be prohibited from January 14 to 15.
The order will be in force with effect from 6am on January 14 to 6am on January 16.
He appealed to the citizens of Hyderabad to advise their children not to fly kites from terraces that did not have parapet walls. They should also advise their children not to run on roads or through vulnerable places to collect kites. He specifically warned that they may be vulnerable to electrocution if they tried collecting kites from electric poles.
He also appealed to people not to collect wood forcibly for bonfires.
He informed the public that any person violating the ban orders would be prosecuted under the Hyderabad City Police Act.
