Setting a new record, the Ganesh laddu at Keerthi Richmond Villas in Sun City, Bandlaguda Jagir, was auctioned for a staggering Rs 1.87 crore today.
This marks an increase of Rs 61 lakh over the previous year's price. Last year, the laddu was sold for about Rs 1.26 crore.
This price is said to be the highest ever recorded in the Telugu States.
Every year, the Richmond Villas residents organise auctioning of their Ganesh laddu as part of the Ganesh festival. The money raised from the auction is used for charity purposes.
Meanwhile, the very popular Balapur Ganesh laddu broke its own record this year and fetched Rs 30.01 lakh in an open auction held today before the start of the Ganesh immersion procession.
Kolan Shankar Reddy, a local BJP leader from Balapur, successfully bid for the laddu.
Last year, the laddu was auctioned for Rs 27 lakh, and was purchased Dasari Dayananda Reddy.
The amount earned through the laddu auction will be spent on various development activities in Balapur village.
The police made elaborate arrangements for the peaceful conduct of the auction. And after special pujas and prayers, the Balapur Ganesh was taken in a mammoth procession for the immersion, with a large number of people thronging to bid adieu to the Lord.
