The Samaikhyandhra Students Joint Action Committee, on Thursday, appealed to the Centre to keep Andhra Pradesh united.
Talking to media persons after a meeting with the representatives of students' unions from different universities, at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur, JAC convenor N Samuel said if the need arises, leaders of the JAC leaders would even go to New Delhi to press for the demand for keeping the state united.
He said that the JAC believes that people from all of AP's regions are opposed to the bifurcation of the state.
"Andhra Pradesh has made rapid progress in all sectors since it remained united since its formation," he averred.
Samuel said that the JAC would appeal to the Centre not to bow to "pressure tactics" of a section of leaders, and to respect the views of the "larger section" of the people.
The JAC also demanded that the Centre make a clear announcement on the statehood issue to put an end to the uncertainty.
The student leaders demanded that the government lift all police cases booked against students who participated in the statehood agitation. (INN)
