Stressing on the need for powers to the state government to go in for the much-needed appointment of different chancellors to the various universities in Telangana instead of one chancellor monitoring all, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today directed the officials to prepare a Special University Act for the betterment of the state.
He expressed discontent at the alleged irregularities occurring in the varsities and the governance which he said had gone awry in the recent times.
In a high level review meeting with his deputy Kadiam Srihari, Health Minister Dr. C Lakshma Reddy and other officials at the camp office on Tuesday, KCR felt that the state government should have adequate powers to appoint chancellors to the various varsities based on the priorities and requirements of the state.
"Instead of having one chancellor for all the universities, we should appoint multiple chancellors with experience and expertise specific to the varsities so that the universities cater to the needs of the state on priority," he said.
He asked the officials to prepare guidelines for appointing chancellors and registrars, and constitute search committees for the same.
He also took a decision to appoint Prof. Yadaiah as the registrar of JNTUH.
