Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday announced that the Nizam's Insitute of Medical Sciences at Bibinagar in the Nalgonda district would be upgraded into the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) promised to Telangana.
The Chief Minister said that as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Telangana had been promised an AIIMS. Therefore, he had decided to upgrade the Bibinagar NIMS into the AIIMS.
The decision was taken after KCR visited the Bibinagar NIMS and held a review meeting with the officials.
KCR said that the location was quite appropriate for the proposed AIIMS as the Bibinagar NIMS was centrally located and had good road connectivity through the Warangal Highway and the Outer Ring Road.
He said that the state government had already identified about 400 acres of land, and would provide more land if required.
Upon its upgradation to AIIMS, the Bibinagar NIMS would naturally get approvals for a medical college, nursing institute and other related institutions, he added.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Bhongir MP Burra Narsaiah Goud, Parliamentary Secretary G Kishore, MLAs Shekhar Reddy, G Sunitha, Sudheer Reddy and Prabhakar Reddy, Legislative Council Vice-Chairman Nethi Vidyasagar, MLCs Karne Prabhakar and P Ravinder, Medical & Health Secretary Suresh Chandra, ZP chairman Balu Naik and others were also present during KCR's visit.
