Announcing a waiver of Rs. 3,920 crores towards housing loan under the double bedroom housing scheme for the poor, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today warned action against those who involved in the recent Indiramma Housing Corporation scam, and vowed to expedite the inquiry process.
The government mobilized Rs. 17,660 crores for the housing scheme and would construct the houses for the poor free of cost, removing the burden of loans. "We have allocated Rs. 1433 crores in the budget for two years, of which we have received Rs. 333 crores from the Centre," he said adding that while the previous regimes had spent only Rs. 1,100 crores on the scheme, the TRS regime allocated Rs. 17,660 crores for it.
During a short discussion in the Assembly on the housing scheme, the Chief Minister accused the previous Indiramma housing scheme of being marred with corruption. Those who swindled money would be made to cough up the tainted amount, he vowed
There was a gaping disparity between the details of the number of beneficiaries of the housing scheme gathered by the government and actual the of beneficiaries who were still seeking houses.
"We have scrapped the housing corporation scheme, and Rs. 1,100 crores will be spent on the Indiramma housing scheme in a transparent manner by the District Collectors," he said.
