Telangana BJP President K Laxman on Wednesday asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao why he was against celebrating September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day, and insinuated that the CM was scared of his ally the MIM.
Laxman made these remarks while addressing a round table conference on the issue of declaring September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day.
Demanding once again that the State government officially celebrate September 17, he said that the BJP was preparing an action plan to mount pressure on the TRS government towards that end.
The BJP leader pointed out that the CM had demanded of the governments of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh that they hold Telangana Liberation Day celebrations officially, and but had shown his opportunistic colours by completely reversing that stance after coming to power in the newly formed State to pander to the MIM's vote bank. Lamenting that KCR had even made a categorical statement that his government would not celebrate September 17 officially, Laxman said that the BJP would teach a befitting lesson to KCR on the issue.
Speaking at the same event, former union minister Bandaru Dattatreya echoed similar views. He said that the people of Telangana had suffered many atrocities during the erstwhile Nizam rule, and that the liberation on September 17 was a seminal event that deserved commemoration. He too alleged that the State government had retracted from its promise of observing it as a State event.
