Telangana Jagruti President and BRS MLC K Kavitha today demanded the establishment of an Erukala Corporation with a fund of Rs 500 crore, as promised by the Congress during the Assembly elections.
She also urged all political parties to provide opportunities to the Erukala community in the upcoming local body elections and ensure their victory.
On the occasion of Eklavya's birth anniversary, the MLC paid tribute to his portrait near the Komuram Bheem statue on Tank Bund. She described Ekalavya's life as symbolic of the oppression faced by tribal and weaker sections, and said that his historical sacrifice remained an inspiration. She praised Ekalavya for guiding society towards a righteous path and becoming an icon, and said that she was proud to be part of the movement for equal opportunities in politics, education and employment for tribals. She also announced plans to install a statue of Ekalavya on Tank Bund in the near future.
Kavitha then criticised the Congress government for "failing" to complete the construction of the Ekalavya building, which was initiated under the leadership of former CM K Chandrashekar Rao. She demanded its immediate completion.
Kavitha also said that KCR had introduced the Erukala Empowerment Scheme, which aims to benefit 50,000 Erukala families at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore, for the upliftment of the Erukala community, but the Congress government had neglected the scheme. She said that she had raised the issue multiple times in the Legislative Council, but unfortunately the State government had not taken any action. She urged the government to enhance the scheme, and implement it in its original form.
Kavitha also called for concerted efforts toward the political empowerment of the Erukala community. She alleged that the then Governor had prevented Kurra Satyanarayana, a leader from the Erukala community, from being nominated as an MLC during the BRS government's tenure, and reiterated that all parties should ensure appropriate representation for the community in the upcoming local body elections.
Kavitha also attended the 51st anniversary celebrations of the Golkonda Sri Jagadambika Yellamma Temple in Jiyaguda Sabjimandi and the Bonalu festivities. On the occasion, she performed pujas at the Ammavari temple along with leaders and activists from the Gangaputra Sangham.
