Kavitha Blames Past Regimes For Farmers' Suicides
Successive governments had deliberately ignored irrigation projects in Telangana, leading to this problem, she said

Telangana Jagruthi president and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha today lashed out at the previous governments for the ongoing spate of suicides by farmers in Telangana.
Addressing the media at TRS Bhavan along with sportswoman Jwala Gutta and others, Kavitha alleged that the sins of the previous regimes were still haunting the peasants. Successive governments had deliberately ignored irrigation projects in Telangana, leading to this problem, she said, adding that the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party rulers did not give water to crops in the region and threw the farming community into a gloom.
The Opposition parties' leaders had no right to criticize the TRS government, Kavitha said - in its one-year rule, the TRS Government had not only resolved the power shortage problem, there was also no dearth of fertilizers and seeds in the State now. The government was also completing the various irrigation projects to supply waters to crops.
Kavitha also said that some noted sportspersons like Jwala Gutta, Sania Mirza and Pragnan Ojha had come forward to help farmers. So far, the families of 171 deceased farmers had been given ex gratia, she said, and added that Jagruthi would start giving financial assistance to 80 families from November 1.
Kavitha appealed to the people to shoulder the responsibility of providing help to the families of farmers.
